Most stations along the coast have recorded just under 200mm since the rain event started on late Sunday/Monday, with stations inland getting well above 200mm, one station has recorded around 1000mm so far!\n\nThe Heavy Rain Warnings are expected to ease this morning, with Buller currently receiving its heaviest rain until 11am. Mondays forecast of 500mm to 700mm of rain for the Westland ranges is on track. This is a significant event even by West Coast standards and there have been road closures from Makarora on the Otago side of the Haast Pass to south of Hokitika and \nNZTA are advising West Coasters to avoid all but essential travel. \nMetService Warnings are in place until Wednesday morning for Westland and Buller.
