  • Hourly, Daily & Long Term Forecasts
Temperature, humidity, wind speed and direction, solar radiation and precipitation are the key weather variables that affect energy demand and the ability to supply it. Forecasts for these key weather variables can be provided in the time step that you want - down to hourly, out to 72 hours - for any specific location or range of locations. Forecasts are updated continuously each day. Longer term daily forecasts out to 14 days can also be provided.
  • Intelligent Data
Metra Energy has developed systems that ensure the forecast is adapted to the locations that you need: the forecasting system is constantly learning and correcting itself for the time of year and variations in local climate. This ensures that you always have the best information available for your decision making. Our meteorologists constantly refine models and systems, check forecasts against observations, and fine-tune data.

Generation

With reliable future knowledge of weather, generators can better plan day to day operational running - increasing efficiency and reducing cost.

  • Combined Cycle & Thermal Stations
Power output is dependent on ambient weather conditions, particularly temperature, atmospheric pressure and humidity. Reliable forecasts of these can reduce potential penalties caused by not meeting delivery targets. Metra weather information can help you calculate demand requirements and allows you to plan downtime for maintenance operations.
  • Hydro Power Stations Effective management of the water resource is critical to hydro operations. Metra can provide hourly spot rainfall forecasts for your catchments up to three days ahead, allowing you to better calculate inflows, plan generation activities and schedule spillover operations. Long term forecasts of rainfall can also be provided.
  • Wind Power
Accurate weather forecasting for wind farms is essential. In addition to long term forecasts, Metra can provide detailed hourly wind forecasts for your turbine sites up to three days ahead, allowing you to better calculate daily output, schedule maintenance and plan for severe weather events. Wind forecasts are available for the specific height of your turbine.

Network Management

With reliable future knowledge of weather, generators can better plan day-to-day operational running, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing cost.

Energy demand, especially peak demand, is highly weather dependent. Forecasting peak demand requires detailed knowledge of the crucial weather elements that affect demand - such as temperature, wind speed and illumination. Metra Energy provides you with all the weather information you need ? in the way you want it, when you want it and where you want it - accurate and site specific for up to 72 hours ahead.

Energy - Retail

With significant transactions occurring on a day-to-day basis, weather forecasts are an increasingly important tool to measure the value of trading today and for the medium and long term. The risk/return ratio means that all tools need to be applied in today's highly competitive environment.

Energy Trading

With many markets in the world now operating in deregulated and competitive environments, energy companies and energy traders are constantly seeking ways to reduce costs and improve margins. Metra allows traders to have the most up-to-date data at their fingertips enabling them to make better decisions.

With banks and funds also becoming more interested in weather products, accurate and reliable weather data is now essential. Metra provides forecasts tailored to your specific needs.
